Do you ever feel like like your tan isn't getting any darker, even though you tan all the time? This is an unfortunate event we called "plateauing."This happens when the melanin in our skin gets comfortable with the way we are tanning, and ceases to create more of the darkening pigments. The cure? Confusion! That's right, just like when you are are working out and wanting to develop more muscle tone, you use different techniques to keep your muscles confused. Your skin works the exact same way.So here are a few quick tips to keep your tan going when your skin just seems to quit getting darker!Tip One: Switch up that tanning routine! Yes, the Sun Angel is by far our best bed, and the quickest way to get your base tan, but after you've achieved that color, you'll want to try some other beds, too! On average, it takes anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks tanning every day or every other day to achieve your base tan. What we suggest after that, is for every three Signature visits you do (Sun Angel, Velocity, Legend, etc.) do one Premiere bed! This will help to stimulate your melanin, creating darker color when you go back up to the highest beds. On the same token, if you are continually tanning in the Basic or Elite beds, try upgrading to the higher levels to bronze that great melanin you already have!Tip Two: Do a lotion Change-Up! Whether you love bronzers, tingles, or accelerators, your skin can get used to what ever product you are using. Knowing what you like is definitely mandatory, especially while creating your base tan. However if you are plateauing, your skin may be too comfortable with your product and need a jump start with a new tanning lotion. Our suggestion is to constantly be switching up your lotions between two (even more if you like!) so your skin is constantly getting the best results possible.Tip Three: Hydrate that Beautiful Bronze! Keep the plateau effect at bay by continually keeping your skin moisturized. We suggest doing our amazing, relaxing Mineral Spa the Hydration Station at least twice a week to keep your skin looking and feeling its best. Moisturizing the skin helps it to absorb and maintain your color best, which will also help in keeping your skin getting darker.

Keep Calm, Tan On!

Summer Lovin'
Its finally Friday! July is famous for cookouts, lake trips, drives through the mountains, and spending the weekends with family and friends. This doesn't always leave a lot of time for visiting the tanning salon! For your weekend festivities, here are a few helpful tips on how to maintain your already fabulous color until you can make it back to your tanning routine. Take it from us, we have mastered the art of keeping up with a tan!
First Tip:
Ditch the bar! Using a regular bar soap can strip off the tan you have worked so many weeks to achieve. Sulfates and other chemicals will deteriorate your color in a hurry, so switch to an ultra moisturizing body wash. These tend to have less harmful ingredients for your bronze body. We offer an amazing body wash specially made for tanned skin, California Tan's Expose.
Second Tip:
Moisturize! We all know that clean, moisturized skin tans best, but locking in that moisture is a key step in keeping your color longer. Lotions that are rich in aloe are great, and our salons have several options on all budgets. This is a very cheap and effective way to keep your color looking great while you are away from the salon for a couple days. Some even have bronzers built in that will maintain that color even more. Devoted Creation's So Naughty Nude is one of my favorites!
Third Tip:
Protect that tan! If you are planning a trip to the pool, lake, beach, or just planning on several hours in the sun, it is a MUST that you protect your skin from the unfiltered rays of the sun. Always wear an SPF, even if you feel your tan is deep enough that you will not burn. If you burn outdoors, you have the chance of peeling, which can strip off all tan color! Many tanning oils for outdoor use have an SPF, so choose one to keep your tan looking healthy by protecting your skin outside. Your lips only burn and age, so make sure to protect them too!
Hopefully these tips will keep your color looking it's best during these hot summer months! Ask any specialist at your local salon for the products I mentioned.

Let the Sunshine In!

Ever wonder how the idea of Indoor tanning came about?
It was actually invented for health reasons for men and women that were Vitamin D deficient in the 1900s. The lack of sunlight in many European countries was causing diseases such as Tuberculosis and Rickets, so artificial sun lamps were designed to mimic the fabulous benefits of sunshine!
Thanks to scientists such as Friedrich Wolff, (Yes, of Wolff Tanning Beds!) studying UV rays turned into the ever popular bronze glow of indoor tanning. CoCo Chanel also had a hand in the matter, sporting the first tanned face model in an issue of British Vogue. Ever since, tanning has revolutionized into one of the most popular trends of our century!
I wonder what Wolff and Miss CoCo would think of our Sun Angel and Velocity beds?
So whether you're looking for a deep sun kissed glow, or just needing some happy Vitamin D rays on this gloomy Monday afternoon, stop in and see us to brighten up your day! Now you might be just as educated on tanning as we are!
